Writing and Snowflakes

I love to write. There are times when I'm walking down the hallway at school and my thumb is tracing words, phrases, lyrics, and stories on my palm. During class I often have a little sheet of paper under my notebook for me to write on, just for the sake of writing. I sometimes end up writing the same thing over and over because my hand loves the way it feels to write a certain word. A few weeks ago I covered a whole page in my sketchbook with the word "pumpkin" just because it felt good to write it... I don't know why I'm saying this right now... I guess I just felt the need to tell someone how I felt about writing... how even though I struggle when it comes to writing stories and sometimes poems, I still feel like writing was meant for me. I feel like Heavenly Father created it in advance just for me, so that I could have a little place to escape to...

Anyways, the first day of Autumn was last Tuesday, but yesterday was the first day it felt like fall. Leaving the house on Tuesday morning to go to school it was nippy out. The air was crisp and cool, and I was glad I had on a light jacket. I'm actually surprised it it was so cool so early in the year. Usually it takes forever for it to cool down here in the south. Last November my youth group went carroling and it was warm enough out that some of the boys were wearing shorts. Maybe this cool weather we're having, along with actually getting a lot or rain this summer, is a sigh that we're actually going to get snow this year!!... Ok- I know that's probably not going to happen, but hey; a girl's gotta dream!

Autumn is Creeping Into View

Though it's still pretty hot here in the south, it's starting to cool off a bit, making it perfect weather to jump-rope outside. Too bad I keep tripping on my shoes! It's been so long since I've jumped rope and my feet are a great deal longer than they used to be...
For us here in America, the first day of Autumn (my favorite season) is on September 22, and so in honor of that, on that day I'm making a list of everything I think of when I think of that season. So far the list is one page long, and that's with the help of a few of my family members. I'm going to inverview everyone for their opinion up to that date, to see what the season means to them. What does it mean to you? When the word is mentioned, what do you think of?

Optimism

"An optimist is the human personification of spring." - Susan J. Bissonette

Optimism is the belief that all will turn out well. As Princesses, this is an important thing to maintain, even when it would be so much easier to break down and cry over the unfairness of a situation.
Imagine that you are graduating from high school this week, and your friend is planning a huge party at her house to celebrate. It's going to be the party of the year and you are super excited to go. You get home from school the day of the party, anxious to get ready and leave, only to find your mother too sick to get out of bed, your little brother and sister hungry, and with your father off on a business trip, you realize that you're going to have to stay home and take care of the kids and your mom all by yourself. Do you slap a bowl of mac-n-cheese in front of your siblings before running to your room to fume at the your mother for getting sick today of all days, or do you let your kid siblings help you to make a nutritional dinner before sitting down with them to watch a good movie, all while keeping a happy face and imagining what stores you and your BFF are going to go to at the mall tomorrow?
It may be hard sometimes to keep smiling when it seems the world is falling apart about you, but in the long run it is worth it. People like to hang aroung optimistic people; its like hanging around a warm ray of sunshine on a cold winter day.
Here are a few ways you can stay optimistic:
1) Smile a lot
2) Relish the little things, like your pretty painted nails, or a compliment from someone you admire
3) As Walt Disney once said: "keep moving forward"
4) Past does not equal future
5) Laugh
6) Look for the best in a situation and in people
7) Give hugs
8) Avoid negative situations and media
9) Hang out with other optimistic people
10) Learn forgiveness

These Summer Days

Things have been quite busy here around the house lately. It seems everyday there has been something new going on, from a ride on the lake to a trip to the zoo to my neice's first birthday party. I really can't say I've had a boring summer, but with school starting in a few days, I want to make the most of the time I have left. Sadly, making the most of my time has forced me to wake up earlier than I'm used to, and this has left me yawning constantly. But it's worth it. And anyways, tomorrow is Sunday, so after church I am free to sleep the day away!

Fishies!!

I added a new gadget to my blog a few days ago. It's on the top left of the page, and it's five fishies in a bowl. If you put your mouse in the box, the fishies swim to it in hopes of food, which you can give them by clicking anywhere inside tha box. Isn't it darling?! They're so much fun to play with, and they are always hungry!

More Rain...

Today I was going to sit on my porch with a good book, and blanket to lay on, a tall glass of ice water, and some pink and white iced animal crackers, but as soon as I walked out the door with my stuff, it started sprinkling. The sky was clear, with only a few tiny sploches of gray here and there, but it was coming down.

Dissapointed, I came inside and watched as the clouds rolled in. It just finished pouring. Today's rain storm lasted about ten minutes. We have had a rainstorm every day this week so far. It will randomly start pouring like there's no tomorrow for a maximum of twenty minutes, and then stop. The skies will clear up, the sun will come out, and then everything will be hot and wet. It doesn't rain enough to make any puddles; just enough to soak everything down...

I just looked outside, and though it has indeed stopped pouring, I am pleased to say that it is still raining lightly. Maybe this rain will last all day and cool everything off?

20 Minute Thunderstorms

Today was spent cleaning up the Royal Bedchambers and doing laundry. We were surprised by a sudden thunderstorm this afternoon which lasted only about twenty minutes but still soaked everything just the same.

After father returned from work this afternoon we went to the library where I checked out a total of five books, and father bought me two from the discard section. Dinner was pleasant, with boiled potatoes, black eyed peas and rice, mushroom casserole, and peach cobbler, and I was cought reading my book under the table during dessert.

We went to the store after dinner, and I bought 2 perennial plants that I planted in pots on my porch. I can't wait to see them bloom next spring! Yesterday I had reworked the soil in all of the pots I have, mixing in moist new soil to help rejuvenate the old soil which had been sitting for a while now unplanted. My little porch garden looks so much more inviting and pretty now. I would take a picture of my garden and post it here, but unfortunately my camera has broken after a year of our being together, and I have still yet to get a new one.

All in all it was a nice day. Tomorrow I have more cleaning to do, and I have to get back on track with exercising, since I've missed several days here recently. So if I want to have time to get everything done I had better get some sleep. Goodnight!

Wings

I went to the library today, and picked up a lovely book called Wings, by E.D. Baker. It was a lovely book about a girl named Tamisin who discovers she is half fairy after wings magically sprout from her back.

The book features characters from A Midsummer's Night Dream, including the fairy queen, Titania, and her husband Oberon.

I found it hard to relate to Tamisin as she tended to be a bit self-centered through parts, but this didn't ruin the book. It didn't just tell her part of the story, though, it also told of a half-human, half-goblin boy named Jak who vows to protect Tamisin.

This book is a great read with an interesting plot that kept me guessing the whole way through, and not only features those afore-mentioned characters from A Midsummer's Night Dream, but goblins, fairies, nymphs, unicorns, and lamias (half-women, half-snake), making it a beautiful fairy tale that inspires me to dance in the light of the next full moon.

Weaving Butterflies Into The Sky

I'm enjoying my afternoon in the sun today, with a glass of lemonade to cool off with while I sit still and breathe in the scent of summer.

Stepping Out Of My Comfort Zone

Yesterday my Young Women's church youth group went to the local lake, and we went out tubing. I am really scared of water I can't see in, and the idea of something underneath me, and so naturally I didn't want to step foot in the water, let alone be pulled behind a boat over waves and high speed on a small, 2 person innertube, but after two groups went before me, I finally agreed to go, as long as they didn't flip me over the way they did for the other girls (all in fun). I was scared to death, and was freaking out at first, but after a while, I began getting over my fear and loving it. My friends were right; it was truly a blast being out there. (I reccomend this activity highly!) I stepped out of my comfort zone, and was truly rewarded for it. I can't wait to go again! I might even let them flip me like they were begging to.
And you know what? When my cousins and I go to Carawinds this Monday, I think I'm going to step out of my comfort zone again and ride my first roller coaster.

Visiting Grandma

Today I went to see my grandmother. I spent the whole day at her house, and got to see the four little girls her chihuahua had three weeks ago. She gave me a red, doll sized, Radio Flyer wagon that her neighbor didn't want, knowing I like such things, and without my knowledge bought me a pretty ivory shirt that I had mentioned liking when we had to go to the store. I think I'll say thank you by sending her a card, since we both love to get mail. I love my grandmother.

A Poem By Emily Dickinson

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
~Emily Dickinson

Snow White's Apple Pie Smoothie

1cup vanilla frozen yogurt

1/2 cup applesauce (preferably unsweetened)

2 ice cubes

pinch of ground nutmeg

1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon

Blend until smooth. Serves 2.

The Princess of Castle Favorite

This is Castle Favorite, a small yet truly "princessy" palace in Germany. I imagine this is the palace where Cinderella ran down the steps at the stroke of midnight. The princess that lives there now often goes up the the roof to read Shakespeare's love sonnets and dream of the day when she finds true love. She goes for a ride on her spotted horse every day, and loves to dance. She is an extremely bright and kind young girl, and often finds herself lost in her imagination on rainy days.

Returned

I have returned this afternoon from my trip, and am still groggy from the lack of sleep caused by it. I can't wait to curl up tonight in my own bed and sleep, but until then...
I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived home to find that not only did a doll I had ordered arrive, but my first issue to a magazine I have subscribed to came in as well. I am trying desperately to resist reading the magazine right now, as I want to read it when I am comfortable and warm in my pajamas tonight, but I keep peeking anyways.
Things have greatly changed around my house, but at the same time, nothing has changed. Some of the rooms in the house have been subject to change, but everyone is still acting the same. My stepmother still gets my father confused when he's trying to order at the drive through, my father is still talking about his truck, my grandmother has yet again lost her purse, and my grandfather is still joking about how he's not glad I'm home. Mmm... it's good to be back.
Unfortunately, being gone for three weeks has also changed me. I have a renewed sense of adventure, and am now looking for a small car so that I may get out of the house now and then and go places no one else seems to want to go to, like the museums downtown, or the river walk. No one has time to go these places anymore, but I still want to go. And you know what they say; If you want something done [right] you've got to do it yourself. It is time that I, Louise, Princess of the South, get a job.

Well Wishes and Cute Crafts

I will be leaving on vacation for three weeks shortly, and internet access will be very limited where I am going, so I thought I would leave you with some sites I found that had a few fun crafts.
This page teaches you to make real books that are almost as small as a quarter. The examples are adorable, and the sizes of the books are adjustable to your preference. They only take 2 hours to make, and are great gift ideas.
This page will show you how to make a first aid kit out of an ordinary kitchen potholder. A great craft to have with you wherever you go. I saw my friend had one on a 4 day hike we went on last week, and just had to have one. Her potholder first aid kit had kittens on the front and opened up just like a book.
This site features tons and tons of awesome crafts, but the page that will pull up is the site's Fairy Glitter Bath Bomb craft. I've always wanted one of these, and now I'm so excited because I know I can make my own!! They also have different types of bath bombs, if glitter isn't your thing; all you have to do is click "Bath and Body Crafts" on the left hand side of the page.
I just had to add this craft/ recipe in, because I just love rock candy! Every time I see rock candy it reminds me of when I visited Biltmore Estate when I was a child, and had my very first (lavender coloured) piece of that glittering treat. Because I had it at Biltmore Estate, it also makes me think of princesses, princes, balls, long beautiful gowns, and stuff like that. It makes me feel so young and naieve and pretty inside and warms my soul. I recommend making this treat , for I know you will enjoy it throughly.
That's it for the links I'm posting today, but like I said, http://www.craftbits.com/ has hundreds of awesome crafts for you to enjoy. I'll see you in three weeks!

Today I was thinking about what I'm going to do for gifts for my family for Christmas. I really don't want to get everything last minute like I usually do, because I can't think of what to get them, so I spent an evening this week looking through old magazines, craft books, and a Better Homes and Gardens Celebrate the Season 2004 book for ideas. I must say that this was a quite an enjoyable evening for me, as lists were involved. Any ways, here's the gift ideas I came up with for my family. (Note: some of these gifts are meant to go together, and I wrote down what I thought my particular family would like, so if you don't see anything you can use for yours, that's just because my family is a little strange, though in a good way.)
-Decoupaged box
-treasure box with lock to store special things
-monogrammed hankies with lace edging
-a poem written especially for them
-a scrapbook filled with poems you've written, or made into a special storybook featuring them as the main character
-basket of special-baked goodies, like banana-nut bread, cookies, and fudge
-homemade pie
-cookie mix in a jar
-a personalized journal with matching pen
-book of inspiring quotes
-framed picture of you with that person
-framed picture of that person's whole family
-hair care set
-a snowglobe
-bubble bath set
-send them a Christmas card filled with paper snowflakes, so that when they open the card it snows on them
-a locket
-books of things they're interested in, like battleships, cars, dolls, goats, whatever it may be that they like. American Girl has some great books for girls, like Real Spirit, and Real Beauty....
-a pretty silk scarf
-a pretty brooch
-battleship game, or another board game
-purse with a few surprises in it, like lip gloss, lotion, stickers, perfume, etc.
-a small book of fun, kid friendly recipes
-monogrammed towel set in that person's fav. color
-slinky
-table linen set; tablecloth, table runner, cloth napkins, napkin rings
-handmade baby quilt
-over night set for little girls: tote bag, nightie, eye mask, small brush, small comb, slippers, travel toothbrush/ toothpaste
-antique jewlry
-antique tea set with recipes for scones, and a pretty lace tablecloth
-cross-stitch a pretty picture for them and frame it
-Princess Lessons book by Meg Cabot with real tiara for a little girl
Hope you like these ideas, but like I said, these are things I think the people in my family would like. If you want to get creative when you wrap these gifts, use small ornaments or pinecones as bows. For wrapping gifts for girls, try using a pretty feather boa as ribbon. For boys, use Hot Wheeles cars as bows; as you tie the ribbon on the top of the gift, string the end of the ribbon through the windows of the car and tie it to the box.

Hershey's Bars and Summer Days

There's something so elegant about a Hershey's bar. So simple and elegant.
There's so many different candy bars on the market today, with nougat, peanuts, caramel, rice crunchies, almonds, and more, that the chocolate is lost in the mix, but with a Hershey's bar, you get the pure, rich, creamy milk chocolate with nothing else. Just that little piece of heaven... so small, so simple, so perfect. With a Snickers bar or a Milky Way, you have to chew and swallow, but with a Hershey's bar, you can let it rest on your tounge and melt slowly, drowning you with a wave of chocolate perfection... Not to say that other candy bars are bad; I love a 3 Musketeers, and a good Zero Bar, but every now and then, take to time to enjoy a Hershey's Bar, without almonds, and not one of the fun size or one of the giant ones: get a regular size one, and take it somewhere quiet and peaceful to enjoy. Let it slowly melt on your tounge; cherish it; eat it slowly.

Tuesday, June 2, 2009

About a month ago I went with some family to see a Disney On Ice Performance. It was a ton of fun and the show was great, and before the show they had a little museum type gallery showing dresses for some of the Disney princesses. I luckily thought to bring a camera, and got some shots of the dresses. Sorry if the quality isn't good; the room was packed and I had to take them quickly.

Toast with Lemon Butter

I finally cleaned out my overflowing inbox. For months now it's had at least 500 unread messages, and now there's 0 messages! It's just, with all the junk mail, and the hundreds of cute emails my grandparents send me that there's not enough time in the world to read, I couldn't kee up on it, so today I just sat down, and saved all the messages they've sent me so I can look at them when I have a ton of time, and deleted everything else. I feel so acomplished.
I also have my shelves up in my new room. It's so nice because I have almost twice as much space to hang up clothes, and while I was hanging them up this afternoon, I went through them, and despite my pack-rat nature, I'm getting rid of alnost a whole trash bag ful of clothes. Before I take them to Goodwill, though (I'm not going to sell them after all- I'm just going to get a job this summer, instead) I'm going to go through them again and give some to my friend, who's about a gazillion sizes smaller than me, and so can probably fit into the stuff that's too small for me. Like I said, though: It's so nice, because now all of my t shirts fit on the clothes rod, so they're not taking up all of my shelf space, that I could be using for books.
Moving into the room isn't that easy, though, because I have a LOT of junk (pack-rat) and still have to go through it. It's all laying there in my old bedroom's floor, giving me evil glares. How am I going to fit everything into my schedule? I have to clean out my old room, organize my new room, wash the dishes, take more exams, study, go to church, and clean the bathroom. All that and get a decent night's sleep.
But it's OK. I know I can handle this. Even if it means the bathroom goes a few more days without being clean, and I only wash what dishes I need at the time for a few more days... I can do this... I've made a commitment to keep this room clean and organized, and I plan on doing just that.
Do you know what I want for a desk? I know I need a work table where I can spread out and do schoolwork, and somewhere to set my laptop, but what I want is a writing desk. Somewhere where I can sit down and write letters, journal entires, poems, stories, stuff like that... What I'd really like actually, is an old fashioned roll-top desk. That would be so cool.
I'm craving toast. I haven't had any in a long time. I wonder if anyone would mind if I broke out the new toaster that's still in the box? I want toast. Does anyone know where I can get some lemon butter? Mmmm.... now my stomach is really grumbling...

Friday, May 29, 2009

Today was pretty eventful. The first part of the day was spent at school, where I had an exam, and two periods spent watching movies (the Last Samari and Madascar 2 in Spanish with English subtitles). When I got home I decided to take a nap, but just as I was dozing off I was awakened by my parents to start sanding the walls of my new room. I am getting moved into a new room so that my room can become a nursery, but before I can move into it it must be finished, meaning, we mudded the walls, sanded them so they were smoothe, and painted them a beautiful shade of blue called Pitter Patter. Tomorrow, Saturday, I'm going to wake up early and begin packing up my room and moving it into my new room.
There are attractions and drawbacks to this new room, and being a compulsive listmaker, I'm going to list them for you.
Attractions:
- its bigger
- I have a door with a lock
- the vent blows more air than any other vent in the house (this could also be bad, because I have 2 parakeets and I don't want them to get too cold)
- a new start with an already clean room

Drawbacks:
- only one window, as opposed to 2 in my current bedroom
- my room right now has been neglected for a while, and who knows what's hiding under the bed. And my parents have to come in here to move my shelving unit thing. So they get to see the big mess and I'll of course feel ashamed and have to hear about it later.

Because of the second drawback, I'm going to move my own bed tomorrow morning whilst my stepmother and her mom are out on their weekly flea market trip, and my father is at work. That way I can have under the bed clean before they get home, and it'll give me more space to move my stuff off of my shelf so it can be moved out.
Now that the room is painted and move-in ready, I'm looking forward to it more, as opposed to my being against it before. Not only does this give me a chance to go through my belongings and get rid of stuff I don't want/ need, so I can have a clean, organized room from the start, but also, since it's bigger, I'll have room for a desk as well. I'm going to begin looking through for sale ads, in thrift stores, etc. for a desk. What I really want is an old fashioned roll top desk to put right by my window.

As part of moving into my new room, like I said, I'm going to go throught a lot of stuff, including clothes. Hopefully, after I go through them, I'll be able to have a yard sale to get some money off of them. I'm going to save the money until right before the school year and then go shopping for back-to-school clothes. (CLMD [compulsive list making disorder] sets in) For my wardrobe, I'm hoping on getting not only basics like:
- darkwash bootcut jeans
- black jeans or slacks
- undergarmets
- t shirts
- 2 skirts
- 2 sweater sets
- 2 blouses
- 2 pair ballet flats (maybe)
- 1 pair tennis shoes
- 1 ski jacket
etc.
but I'm also hoping to get these specialty items:
- Pyramid Collection's burgundy velvet yule dress
- Pyramid Collection's blue crinkle blouse
- Del Sol's color changing nail polish (so expensive, though, at 10 dollars a bottle!!)

As you can see, this is a lot of expensive stuff, but I'll make it work, because I was born and raised a thrifty shopper who knows how to get good deals, and I'm hoping on getting a part time job this summer as well anyways.
For now, i'll bid you farewell, because it's late where I am and I have to get up early if I want to have time to clean my room before my parents get home. Ciao!!

Hello!

Hi! I would like to take the next few minutes to introduce myself, and my site/ blog. I'm Louise, and my site was created as my outlet for creativity, and also because I want to do my part to help inspire girls of all ages to embrace their inner princess and perhaps discover something new about themselves that they didn't know before.
I promise to do my best to make my site as interesting as possible, but then again, I can't please everyone, so if you find this a complete waste of your time, then I'm sorry, but oh well. If you do find this interesting, or are just curious to learn more about what I do here, thats awesome, but if you could please try to bear with me for a while so I can get things up and running. It might take a while, but I think I should catch on pretty quickly.
Wow. You're still reading! That's a great sign! Stay tuned fo rmore posts, but for now, this princess needs her beauty sleep; it's time to go to bed!
